Consultation

Our specialists at ISMA will carefully review your referral prior to a consultation booking. The consultation time can vary from 15 to 60 minutes depending on the complexity of your medical history and the purpose of the referral. The length of consultation will be reflected on the consultation fee for which a portion is rebatable via Medicare.

Please note that your initial consultation is not the day of your procedure.

On your day of consultation, you will meet the secretary at the reception desk. You will complete a client registration form to include your personal details in addition to Medicare, private health fund and emergency contact. You will also be asked to consent to permit your specialist to access your medical records from other medical providers

Your specialist will greet and escort you to the consultation room. You are welcome to bring any medical records you may have on hand, or a support person. There will be time during the consultation to ask any questions you may have, and your specialist will discuss and provide you with an appropriate management plan.

If you are recommended to undergo a procedure, you and your specialist will complete an admission booklet which will include the procedure consent form.

The consultation fee is processed via EFTPOS. You can also pay with cash. Our secretary will also assist you with the Medicare rebate.

Privacy Policy

Your medical record and consultations are kept strictly confidential and protected by law. Only authorized members in our practice and medical providers outside our practice (such as your GP or specialist) can access this information. As such, we cannot provide confidential patient information over the phone or in writing to any unauthorized persons.

Procedures

If you are recommended to undergo a procedure, your specialist will discuss with you the rationale for the procedure including the potential risks and complications. This is referred to as informed consent. You are encouraged to ask any questions prior to signing the procedure consent form.

You will also be provided with fasting instructions and to withhold certain medications (such as diabetes medications, blood-thinners).

All procedures are performed under sedation by an anaesthetist, who you will meet on the day of your procedure. After the procedure, you will be monitored in the recovery area where your specialist will talk to and provide you with a copy of the procedure report, which will include a follow-up plan. You will then be discharged to the care of the person designated to drive you home

As bowel preparation instructions differ for each patient, your specific bowel preparation information will be provided to you by your specialist.
